Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

The short version: everything you type into your Will stays on your own device. Your names, addresses, family details, executors, beneficiaries and wishes are never sent to us, never stored on our servers, and never shared with anyone. We could not read them even if we wanted to.

1. Who we are

Lasting Wills (“we”, “us”) operates the website at lastingwills.com. For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, the data controller is:

Photofuse Limited
Registered in England & Wales, company number 05579010
Registered office: 63 Ennerdale Drive, London NW9 0DX
Email: support@lastingwills.com

2. What we do and don't handle

✓ Never collected

  • Your name or your family's names
  • Your address or contact details
  • Executors, guardians, beneficiaries
  • Your assets, gifts or wishes
  • The contents of any Will you create
  • Accounts, passwords or payment details

△ Automatically processed

  • Your IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages requested and the date/time
  • Referring website, if any

The items on the right are recorded automatically in standard server logs by our hosting provider whenever any website is visited. They are used only to keep the site running and secure. We do not use them to identify you, and we do not combine them with anything else.

3. How your Will is stored

The Will Creator saves your progress using browser local storage — a small area of your own device's memory. This means:

  • Your answers are held only in the browser on the device you used.
  • They are never transmitted over the internet to us or to anyone else.
  • If you return using the same browser, your progress is still there.
  • If you use a different device or browser, it will be empty.

Deleting your data

You are in complete control. To remove everything you have entered:

  • Use the “Clear this will” button inside the app, or
  • Clear your browser's site data or history for lastingwills.com

Please be careful on a shared or public computer. Because your answers stay in that browser, anyone else using the same device and browser could see them. Always use “Clear this will” before you walk away from a shared machine, or use a private/incognito window.

4. Cookies

This website sets no cookies — none at all. We use no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, no social media widgets and no third-party embeds.

The local storage described above is not a cookie and is not used to track you. It exists solely to save the Will you asked us to help you write, and to remember your choice of guided or full-form mode and light or dark theme. Because it is strictly necessary to deliver the service you requested, it does not require a consent banner under the UK and EU ePrivacy rules.

5. Analytics and advertising

We do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. We do not profile visitors, we do not track you across websites, and we carry out no automated decision-making.

Our own anonymous counter

So that we can tell whether this free service is actually helping people, our own server keeps a simple tally of how many Wills are started and completed. When you begin or finish a Will, the website records a single line containing:

  • the date and time
  • whether a Will was started or completed
  • whether the guided or full-form route was used
  • whether it was for one person or a couple
  • the country you selected from the menu in the form

That is the entire record. It contains no name, no address, no Will content, no IP address, no cookie and no identifier of any kind. The entries cannot be linked to each other, to you, or to any device — they are counts, not visits. We use them only to produce totals such as “42 Wills completed this month”.

Because these records are anonymous and cannot identify anyone, they are not personal data. If you would still rather not be counted, you can block requests to counter.php in your browser or ad-blocker; the Will Creator works exactly the same either way.

Advertising

This website may show sponsor messages from organisations that support our work. These are plain links and images served from our own website. They set no cookies, run no third-party scripts and do not track you. We are not paid per click or per view based on anything we know about you, because we know nothing about you.

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone for marketing. The only third party involved in running this site is our hosting provider, Hostinger, which processes server logs on our behalf as a data processor under a data processing agreement.

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights or safety of others.

7. Legal basis for processing (UK & EU GDPR)

WhatPurposeLawful basis
Server logs (IP, browser, time)Keeping the site available, diagnosing faults, preventing abuseLegitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f))
Local storage of your WillProviding the service you asked for — saving your progressNot processed by us; it stays on your device
Anonymous completion countsMeasuring whether this free service is helping peopleNot personal data — no identifiers are recorded

8. How long data is kept

  • Your Will content: kept on your device until you delete it. We hold no copy and therefore have nothing to delete.
  • Server logs: retained by our host for a short period, typically no more than 30 days, then deleted.

9. Your rights

If you are in the UK or EU, you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Since we hold no personal data about you beyond short-lived server logs, in most cases there will be nothing for us to provide — but you are welcome to ask.

To exercise any right, contact support@lastingwills.com. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your data protection regulator. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU it is your national supervisory authority.

10. International visitors

This website is available worldwide. Our host's servers may be located outside your country. Where server logs are transferred internationally, our provider applies appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. Because your Will never leaves your device, it is never transferred anywhere.

11. Children

This service is intended for adults old enough to make a Will in their jurisdiction — usually 18. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly process children's data.

12. Security

The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Because we hold none of your personal information, there is no database of Wills to be breached. The security of the device and browser you use is your own responsibility.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
